Klinck ends Trade -
In 1997, when I was editor of the gay mag Icon, a few photocopied chapters of a book were left on my desk. The book was called Tacones (High Heels) and was written by a young unknown writer by the name of Todd Klinck. I read and absorbed the chapters left for me faster than a fresh Jenny Craig dropout attacks their first chocolate fudge cake. I immediately needed more.I got in touch with Todd and told him that this was some of the best stuff I had ever read and that I wanted the rest of the book pronto. I also told him to screw the gay press – this deserved a big-time story. I had just started freelancing at the Toronto Star and begged the entertainment editor to let me profile this guy. The editor liked the story and ran it on page 3 of his section. And so began my relationship with Todd Klinck – hustler, pornographer, safe-sex radical (a term I coined for him in the Star) and dear friend.When I was asked to take over fab, Todd was one of the first people I called. I can admit now that I was selfish: I missed his writing and was tired of nudging him to write his next book.Todd’s column was an integral part of everything I wanted fab to be. It was political in the sense that it advocated rights for sex-trade workers in a humanizing way. More importantly, it was well written in Todd’s usual minimalist style and from his unique perspective. Todd Klinck is one of Canada’s most important voices and it was a privilege to have him in these pages.But all good things must come to an end. As Todd points out in his farewell column, he has run out of things to say for the present. His column was always meant to be personal and he has finished dipping into his past. He feels his current projects will not produce enough material to maintain the column.Todd will continue to write features for fab. After more than 3 years, this issue of fab magazine has my 85th and final column.

Todd Klinck retires Trade column, plans to return to novel -
When Mitchel Raphael contacted me in 2002 and told me he was considering taking over the editor’s position at fab magazine, I asked him if he was joking. I thought that after three years at the brand-new National Post writing about drugs, hookers, sex and other counter-culture topics, taking over community rag fab would be a step backwards in his career path. fab used to be a magazine I loathed. I was embarrassed by the poor editorial quality and I didn’t think it could ever rise above its image as a fluffy, trashy gay rag (with tons of typos). But Raphael had a complete make-over of fab in mind, and since I’d always respected him as a man with a vision who knows how to get things done, I signed up to be one of the regular columnists. My column was initially to be titled “Us Whores,” but fab publisher Michael Schwarz had the brilliant idea of naming it Trade to go along with Twink and Troll. When I started working for fab, I had just moved into a 2400-square-foot studio after years of working on and off as an escort and professional dominant. This new studio was a big step for me. I had always admired Andy Warhol and his factory, and I had always dreamt of having a large space in which to build my business. During the studio years, I never ran out of column topics. I would simply write about whatever was happening in my life at the time. I built a dungeon, I tore down a wrestling ring, I shot dozens of porno films, I ran a cyber-sex operation. I worked with my business partner Mandy Goodhandy to build a video company and an alternative strip club. I had a documentary crew from Showcase follow me around for three months to produce the series Kink. it's all a blur.......... i will do a proper update tomorrow. but just wanted to give you all the general summary of this VERY long and physically draining day.

So Sunday was RAINY, I'm talking downpours for the first four hours of Folsom Fair North 3. But the venue was nice (Allan Gardens) and I was shocked to see how many people were actually out in the rain with umbrellas (or not), shopping anyways.

Farewell to Mo
